Office 365 ferderation URL rewrite

We are currently trying to federate our domain for use with Office 365.

We have set up the federation on sts.ourdomain.couk on the domain controller where all of the services are configured but the firewall passes all port 80 and 443 requests to another IIS7 server.

I have created a web site on our externally facing web server with the relevant host headers but I can't work out the URL rewrites to get all traffic transferred to the other server, call it stsserver, on the domain.

The rewrite itself does not seem to be the issue but the actual rule. I have been testing with a basic redirect to google.co.uk.

If I set a regex pattern of (.*) then the rule is applied but useless as I have no {R:1} or similar to apply to the rewrite.

However, If I do what I think I should and set the regex pattern to sts.mydomain.co.uk(.*) then the rule is not applied at all and the URL references the local site even though it passes on Test Pattern.

I get the same with wildcard matching.

Application Request Routing is installed but if there is anything else I need to apply to the website itself in IIS I am at a loss.

The fact is it is not applying a rule that matches on the pattern test when creating. I have even tried escaping it as sts\.mydomain\.co\.uk(.*)
