Hello,
I'm in the planning stage of replacing our standard office 2007 Pro with either office 2013 sta (with some pro for the people who still need Access), or office 365. Our Microsoft forefront spam filter was just migrated over to Microsoft 365 so we have a full account ready to go and I've been beta testing the 365 service. I'm just confused as to the value and would like to hear from people about it.
We can purchase office standard for ~$300 a license. The 365 service we would need runs $15-$20 per user per month... so lets say $240 a year per user. We have used office 2007 for 7ish years now and I would except that we user 2013 for a good 5+ years. Like most companies, we don't need to upgrade version and would actually be a hassle.
Simple calculation tells me that over 5 years, office 365 will cost me $1200 vs $350 for a stand alone open license. I see the benifits of office 365 such as the user being able to use it on 5 different devices and down the road we would be able to move off Exchange 2010 (instead of upgrading), but with 125 users the cost still doesn't come out.
Am I missing something? The service seems overly expensive to me.
