Office365 and Support Issues

For background: Email is currently through a hosted 2013 Exchange with a regional/small company. We are required to archive all email for regulatory purposes. I have no access to EAC or powershell, and only have the ability to add users/permissions. I have no access to troubleshooting tools: mail trace, spam, whitelist, blacklist, etc. Support is friendly and somewhat reactive however.

As the new manager, I have requested moving to O365 as I have had no issues with Office 365 in the past. Our helpdesk MSP and some management at our firm have pushed back that "support at Microsoft is horrible." My counter being, in 4 years of using it I have never experienced an issue that support needed to be involved.

Has anyone had issues with support? Or does it make sense to migrate just to gain more control over our environment?
