I am about to upgrade a small office from an older version of Office to 2016 via the Office 365 Business subscription. The one without hosted email or Skype. Their email is through google and will stay that way.
The issue I'm having is that when I setup the account to purchase and manage the licenses it creates a _______@_______.onmicrosoft.com account. OK, whatever. But when I go to assign these licenses to users I either have to make a new user@______.onmicrosoft.com account or if I want to use their regular email addresses I have to prove that I own the domain. WHY? I don't want Microsoft doing anything with the dns or domain and I'm afraid that going through their prove-I-own-it wizard might try and migrate something to their hosted exchange.
What am I doing wrong? This should be exactly like assigning licenses with Adobe, right? Is...
