How to change an email address after a typo

I just set up a new user in ADUC and then put their nice shiny new email address in the email box.

We use AAD Connect so my next step was to force a sync.  After going into O365 to configure the correct license for the user I realized I had made a typo in the email address.

I fixed it in ADUC and did another forced sync, but the wrong one is still showing in O365.  Do I just need to be patient for it to update or am I doing this wrong?  Should I be doing something else to fix this?
