We have just about always had issues with the MS Dynamics CRM add-in for Outlook. We have 13 users of CRM. All have Office 365 Enterprise E3 accounts and we are using the hosted CRM solution through O365. We keep things fairly up to date, so currently, our users are on Office 2013 with the CRM 2015 add-in. The problems have existed since we started using MSDCRM with Office 2010 and, I believe, CRM 2011.
The problem has always been that the CRM add-in causes Outlook to become slow, and usually unresponsive with the spinning circle and greyed-out UI. I have never been able to figure out what the issue is, other than a poorly designed add-in. I know that Outlook tends to have issues with add-ins, but one should be able to reasonably expect that an MS created add-in would play nice.
