We are planning a migration from on premises AD + Exchange to Office 365 + Dirsync (or AADSync or whatever its called now!)at the moment. I'm considering doing a cut-over just for simplicities sake.
I understand the steps are (very boiled down):
1) Connect our onsite server to Office 365 this will a) sync our existing accounts b) transfer user data into office 365
2) Switch over our MX records
3) Setup AADSync to maintain user account & password sync between AD & O365
4) Retire onsite exchange
What I'm wondering is if I can do step 1, and after our accounts are sync'd but before all the user data is, can I then immediately switch over our MX to point new mail at O365?
To me that seems simpler because I can:
1) Flip the switch to begin migration and very shortly after that switch over the MX.
2) Tell users to start using O365 straight away on...
